He is holding it right for blocking, but his feet are wrong. Besides, the picture makes it out to look like he just sliced that chicken’s head off, hence the massive FAIL.

I’d say there’re way better blocking stances. Leaning back like that just throws your center of balance away from your feet. I could be wrong, though. I’m only a part-time kung-fu poser.
