If they really think they’re kittens, they’re gonna be horribly scarred for life. Both mentally and physically from the skunks spray.

Skunks only spray if they feel threatened, if the kids treat them well they may never spray. And while getting “skunked” is unpleasant, it certainly doesn’t scar you for life. Unless you’re allergic to tomato juice -

You can actually keep a skunk as a pet in some states. I once met a woman that had a pet skunk at the vet I take my ferrets to. =P Those may be tamed/descented skunks.
