“Well, it’s like this. I was overjoyed to learn I’d gotten a job with Marvel. I thought I’d be drawing Captain America or other cool superheroes. But then Stan told me I’d be inking the new Alf series. Freakin’ Alf, can you believe it? I hated my job. Eventually went back to drinking. Finally I just didn’t give a shit. I started pumping out obscene covers, figuring they’d fire me. I thought I’d outdone myself with one where I had Alf raping a seal. The joke was on me, though. Turns out nobody, not even the editors, was looking at the damn things. They actually published the thing. The lawsuits that ensued, from parents claiming their kids were traumatized by the covers, would occupy my time for the next decade…”
