AK47
“Of all the weapons in the vast soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947. More commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It’s the world’s most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9 pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn’t break, jam, or overheat. It’ll shoot whether it’s covered in mud or filled with sand. It’s so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people’s greatest export. After that comes vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars.”

    1. When you absolutely have to kill every muthafscker in the room, accept no substitute.

    3. AK47s jam. They jam a helluva lot. It depends what model you’re using. The stamped versions sucked ass. Once the Russians began machining their weapons, it became the reliable murder-machine it is today.

    4. I’ll take Sticky’s word for it. How does the AK stack up against the M-16 or M-4? How about the Heckler & Koch rifles?

    5. Comparison between M16 and AK-47

An M4 is the carbine version of the M16 so they’re mechanically similar.
I don’t know what Sticky’s experience is, but there are many, many cases of US and Israeli soldiers ditches their issued rifle and picking up AK’s. Most of the AK-47’s in the US got here from Vietnam vets who brought them back.

    6. Yes, that’s because the machined versions are far more commom now. The stamped versions were either lost to the ground they were dropped in or were torn apart and used for scrap. All versions on from the late 50s are machined.

And as for the comparison between the M16 and AK47:

      M16/M4
      – Better control
      – More accuracy
      – Faster fire rate

      AK47
      – Much more stopping power (the 7.62 is much more lethal than the 5.56)
      – Very rugged and reliable
      – Easy to disassemble and repair

    7. Well, my experience is limited to Counter-Strike, but the AK is more powerful and has more recoil.

    8. Stick said what I was going to say (that the AK is far less accurate and slower rate of fire) I need not repeat 😛 The AK is a hell of a lot cheaper too isn’t it?

As for the soldiers picking up AK’s to use, their guns jammed or just fucked up because of the conditions in vietnam, not because its a better gun, just better in that locale (water logged jungle/etc).

    9. I love the “lord of War” quote with that. We should junk the M-16’s and go back to M-14’s. The only reason we only have M-16’s is because it was a political issue during the Vietnam era. A lot of U.S. soldiers died in combat because of weapon malfunctions. But instead of changing the rifle we just kept improving it. Like if your dog shits on the carpet, instead of cleaning it up, you spray it with Febreeze, paint it, then wax it and polish it.

M-16’s were designed not to rattle and make noise during patrols, so they were built with aircraft precision mechanics. Each part fits so securely against another that there is very little room for dirt, debris, whatever to be in the weapon without interfering with the operation of the rifle, which is why it is more prone to jamming. This means constant cleaning and care (which you should be doing anyway)or the weapon will most assuredly jam. The AK on the other hand, you could fill it with mud, puke in the barrel and take it’s mother out for a nice seafood dinner, never calling her back and it will still shoot all day. The difference between the two is like the difference between a fencing foil and a broadsword.

As for H&K, they have a version of the 16 called an HK-416 that Special Forces and SOCOM has been using for a while now that has the reliability of the AK, but keeps the pro’s of the M4 or M-16. The biggest problem I have with the M4 and 16 is the caliber. Nothing like shooting hadji and having him get back up again.

    10. It’s funny to read all of these remarks from people who truly don’t know anything about either of these weapons.

    11. sticky is wrong, since 1950someting, all ak’s have been stamped, the AKM is the rifle that was shipped around the world, type 1 and type 2 ak’s are actually rare, if you see an ak nowdays, its either an akm, or an ak74m- there are also tons of less common variants. and ak’s are must more reliable then the ar15 platform mostly because ar15’s (m16) uses direct impingement. ive seen an ak get dug up after 15 years, have engine oil dumped on it, and then empty a whole magazine. in vietnam if the american troops left a round in the chamber of an m16 overnight the weapon would jam shut.
