The depiction of Christ’s crucifixion is historically inaccurate, not to mention, physically impossible.
The Romans used to drive the stake through the Ulna and Radius of the arm which offers enough support to keep your body on the cross. If if they put the stakes through your hands the flesh would eventually tear off and you would fall because there is really nothing there to support the rest of your wieght.
A stake was also hammered to the mid section just under the feet so so you could stand on it.
Ironically when anyone was crucified they wouldn’t die from blood loss as one might imagine, but rather they would suffocate due to the strain place on the diaphragm after being in that position for so long.
