No, no, no, no! Tom Cruise can’t be Gordon!
This image is overflowing with crazy. Tom Cruise? Jesus, Freeman is an enigma, a scientific genius with a talent for killing. Cruise could give him no depth at all. He’s also way too old, as Freeman is supposed to be a young whizkid graduate in his mid-twenties. Boyish-faced Ed Norton could pull it off, I’d say.
As for the others, what the hell is wrong with the actors who provided their voices in the game? Robert Guillame (aka Benson) would do far better than Cosby as Dr Vance, and the legendary Robert Culp could not be topped as Breen. Michelle “Ensign Ro” Forbes may not look much like the game Mossman, but it’s the voice that makes the character, and you could always slap a wig on her. Oh, and get Louis Gossett Jr to do the voice and facial animation modelling for the Vortigaunts, too. I don’t know what Merle Dandridge (Alyx) looks like, but hey, give her a go.
As long as you get a (well-cast) big star in the Freeman role, you can put whoever you like in the supporting roles, so why not recognise that Valve’s original casting was just fine?

while i don’t care for him, i think, if we need a ‘big name’ for Gordon, then Ben Affleck would actually be good. just grow him a goatee and put glasses on him, and you’re set.
my other suggestion would be to definitely keep lou gosset jr. as the vortigaunt. anyone seen Enemy Mine?
No, not Affleck. At least Cruise used to be able to “kinda act” in his pre-scientology times. Affleck could not emote if his life depended on it. He was absolutely dreadful as Daredevil, and he would be horrible as Freeman.
I agree on Grosset though – he should definitely do Vortigaunts.
